God Knows Our Hearts

This is the first blog I’ve posted in a couple of months. I’m simply writing what I received from reading Luke Chapters 14-16 last night. When I asked God what He wants me to understand about this Scripture, I understood Him to say to me, “I am Your God. Jesus is my Son.”

Chapter 14
Take the Lowly Place (verses 7-14):
We should not think too highly of ourselves, but let exaltation come from others. We should not give feasts and invite only the wealthy and famous, for when we invite them, they will throw a feast, invite us back, and we would be repaid. When we give a feast, we should “invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind.” And we will be blessed, because they cannot repay us; for we will “be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”

My thinking is that we should not waste our resources, or spend unwisely, but should be concerned for feeding the less fortunate.

Leaving All to Follow Christ (verses 25-33):
I believe we are to be willing to be rejected and to suffer like Jesus did. Jesus said in Luke 14:27 “And whoever does not bear his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.” And in verse 33 He said, “So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be my disciple.”

This Scripture is saying to me that we should be willing to give up all our possessions, family and friends, if asked of us, to work for the advancement of God’s kingdom.

Chapter 15
The Parable of the Lost Son (verses 11-32):
I believe this is how it is with God over the lost. He sees us from afar and has compassion for us. He welcomes us home.

Chapter 16
The Parable of the Unjust Steward (verses 1-13):
13″No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”

The Law, The Prophets, and The Kingdom (verses 14-18):
No matter what we say or do, God knows our hearts. It is impossible to hide anything from Him. Scripture tells us in verse 15 …”For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.”

Perhaps we should reassess what we call our treasures, cash them in, and give the money to the LORD for the advancement of His kingdom, thus building up our treasures in heaven.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matt. 6:19-21).
