The Dangers of War

A couple of weeks ago I had not gotten sufficient sleep on Friday night, so I laid down for a quick nap on Saturday morning. As soon as I closed my eyes God showed me a globe, and I asked him why he was showing me a globe. He said he wanted me to “pray for the world every day, no ordinary prayer.” Two days later I awoke early and asked God if he wanted me to pray for anyone special. He responded with, “I want you to pray for the world.” I felt that since he had just told me two days earlier to pray for the world every day, that there was a sense of urgency about the matter.
Earlier this week I was reading in Psalms and came to Psalm 33. After reading this psalm I thought it was a good chapter to read to God in prayer for the world. But verses 10 and 11 jumped out to me.
10. The Lord frustrates the plans of the nations
and thwarts all their schemes.
11. But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever;
His intentions can never be shaken. (NLT)
As I thought more about this Scripture, I began to think that the situation between the United States and North Korea could be this urgency that I had felt the second time God told me to pray for the world. I now believe it is the urgency.
I see these two leaders as bullying each other with their rhetoric. I question if they have thought much about what this could do to the world. I don’t think it would be just between the two of them. If North Korea fires nuclear missiles at Guam, many people will be killed there. What then will the United States do in retaliation to North Korea? Can they not see that if missiles are fired at Guam, the whole world will be affected? Would there not be nuclear fallout that would travel for miles and miles? I see it as causing the world to take sides, some for the United States and some for North Korea.
I think the reason God wants us praying for the world is that he does not want the world destroyed at this time. I think now is the time to pray Psalm 33, especially verses 10 and 11, day and night. It is a very comforting Scripture. I pray this blog alerts people to the dangers of war.
